This section provides some information about the Phantom comic books published in India.

Of all the publishers that brought the Phantom to the Indian masses, the most popular has probably been Indrajal despite the fact that they went out of publication quite some time back. I have been receiving a lot of emails enquiring about Indrajal Phantom comics, but regretfully, I have to admit that my knowledge about them is limited. Some relevant information about Indrajal comics can be found at Bryan Shedden's site. Please check it out. Also it is my sincere request that if you have any important piece of information about Indrajal Phantom comics, please do to share your knowledge with other Phans.

Until recently there were two major publication houses that produced Phantom comics in India. These were Diamond Comics (P) Ltd. and Egmont Imagination (India) Ltd. (formerly Indian Express Egmont Publications Ltd.). However, Diamond Comics have stopped publication of Phantom comics and so has Egmont Imagination. Some information about each publisher is given below:

• Diamond Comics : These publishers had been producing full-colour Phantom comics in most of the Indian languages, including Hindi, Bengali, Telegu, etc., along with English since 1978. The exact number of Phantom comic issues published by Diamond Comics is currently unknown to me. However, the last issue in my collection is #49. You can click on the link above to view the cover pages of the comic books that I have. I plan to index my books soon to give the name of the writers and the artists who worked on the stories contained in the issues. However, this will be a difficult task as those details are not provided in the comics themselves. Quite often they would not even state the name of the story! But my conjecture is that these are reprints of the newspaper strips by Lee Falk.

• Egmont Imagination (India) Ltd. (formerly Indian Express Egmont Pub. Ltd.) : These publishers released their very first full-colour English Phantom comic in June 2000. This first issue contained a Scandinavian Phantom story (translated into English) and also an original Mandrake story by Lee Falk. To view the cover page and details of this issue and the others that were released monthly, click on the link above. The publishers stopped regular publication of Phantom comics after issue #21. However, from time to time, they republish the same stories (with a few new ones, in some rare cases) in either a new format or with a new cover page.
