After 11 long years, this website is finally retired. I have worked on a new and improved website, and I am happy to announce The Phantom Trail as a revamp of this website! Please continue on to www.phantomtrail.com
A reference to this website was made in the September issue of a French magazine called DaxComics France. They used some of the info present in this website and returned the favour by providing a link to this site. I hope this brings in more visitors! Thanks, DaxComics!
I have changed servers. This resulted in the website being down for some time but this has been fixed now. Please note that you must access this site via the links www.deepwoods.tk or www.deepwoods.cjb.net (the former is preferred). Please do NOT use http://www.geocities.com/amanking/Phantom/ as this will no longer work. Sorry for any inconvenience caused.
9 APRIL 2006
I have made slight changes to how the Daily Comic Strip section functions. Hopefully you will not notice anything different but if you do find any bugs, please let me know immediately! I made these changes so that those with spyware blocking software could also view the comic strips. I've had reports that some software interfered with how my page used to work. This shouldn't be a problem now. If your anti-spyware software still prevents you from using my site, let me know.
8 APRIL 2006
The Daily Comic Strip section again shows Mandrake strips. But from now on, there might be at most a week's delay because I now have to manually upload the strips to make them accessible. As I am usually free to do this only on weekends, strips of the current week will normally be available at the end of the week. The Phantom and Spider-Man strips remain available without delay. So keep visiting! Thank you for your support.
4 APRIL 2006
The Daily Comic Strip section is back! I have found another source for your daily entertainment: www.chron.com. Thanks to the good folks there, you can access the Phantom and Spider-Man strips everyday. (Please bear with their ad banners; I suppose it's a small price to pay.) Alas, I have not so far found a source for Mandrake strips. But I'm still looking. Wish me luck for this too!
3 APRIL 2006
With a heavy heart, I have to inform you that the Daily Comic Strip section of this website has been brought down. The original source of the comic strips has been blocked. I guess all good things must come to an end. But I'm not losing hope and will continue looking for ways to get those comic strips to you. Wish me luck!
27 AUGUST 2005
The following sections have been updated with new content:
A new URL can now be used to access your favourite Phantom website (this one!!): www.deepwoods.tk
Please note that the earlier URL www.deepwoods.cjb.net continues to work.
The following sections have been updated with new content:
Your Fan-Fic section updated with another contribution to the story, moving it onward in an interesting direction. I look forward to your contributions too!
All the comic strips available via the Daily Comic Strip section are now retrieved from www.kingfeatures.com. (This is because one of the earlier sources, www.chron.com, now requires registration to view the comics.) The shift is probably for the best because there will be lesser ads on the comic pages.
I have become a member of The Phan Ring, a web ring for the websites of Phans. So, if you are a Phantom fan and also have a website (that need not be about the Phantom), please do join The Phan Ring.
1 JULY 2004
The Phantom Game Contest has finally ended! Winners will be notified via email.
20 JUNE 2004
Indian Comics section finally updated with information about the Phantom books released by Egmont India besides the original comic series. Also included is a list of all the Phantom stories published so far by Egmont India along with the issue numbers in which they appear. Plus, now available are the cover pages of every issue of every Egmont India comic book series (well, almost). Do check it out!
The phone numbers of the comic book publishers, mentioned in the Indian Comics section, have also been updated.
16 JUNE 2004
The Phantom Game Contest date has been extended to 30 June 2004. I'm looking forward to your entry!
30 MAY 2004
Your Fan-Fic section updated with a contribution to the story. Please send in your contributions too!
A new link added to the Indian Links section, pointing to an article published in The Hindu, an Indian national daily, on 22 May 2004. It focuses on the Indrajal comics with references to the characters published in them, including the Phantom.
17 MAY 2004
As mentioned before the number of downloads of Mr Walker's Last Mile has crossed the 100 mark! To celebrate this fact and to encourage everyone to play the game right till the end, I'm holding a contest that gives you a chance to win upto 3 Indian Phantom comics! There will be 3 winners, chosen by lucky draw, and all three can get the collectible issue #1 (or any of the other three issues on offer, as preferred) of Egmont India's original Phantom series. Hurry! Contest ends 17 June 2004!
5 MAY 2004
Updated the Daily Comic Strip section so that it shows Mandrake strips of future dates in advance, just like before. Please note that these future strips will be in b/w format. But once the world catches up with those dates, the strips will be available in colour! In case I confused you: Mandrake strips of the current date and of previous dates (but later than 29 Feb '04) will be in colour while strips of dates before 1 Mar '04 and those later than the current date (as far as available) will be in b/w.
26 APRIL 2004
Updated the Daily Comic Strip section to display the new, bigger and coloured format of Mandrake comic strips as made available by the KFS site. However, this change also means that you can no longer access Mandrake strips of future dates in advance like before. [The last statement is no longer true! ~ 5 May 2004]
By the way, the older b/w archives are still available (and I hope KFS decides to retain them)! You don't need to worry about the transition between coloured and b/w; just change the dates as you want and the rest will be taken care of automatically. Enjoy!
24 APRIL 2004
The following sections have been updated with new content:
Added a link to Lee Falk's Biography located at Bryan Shedden's site in my Lee Falk's Section. I had been meaning to write a biography on my own but never found the time; moreover, I don't think I could have written one as good as Bryan's.
28 MARCH 2004
A new link added to the Indian Links section, pointing to an article about Ashok Amritraj and his plans for a Phantom & Mandrake movie. (Thanks to Bryan Shedden for this piece of info.)
Fixed an error in the date changing function at my Daily Comic Strip section that prevented detection of leap years.
27 FEBRUARY 2004
A new page called The Phantom Game added. You can download the Phantom game "Mr Walker's Last Mile" from that page. Please do try out the game! I am sure you'll like it!
There had been an error in the forms used in this website for the past few months. Any data posted to me via those forms never reached me. I came to realize this only a few days back. It seems there is an error in Geocities' form processor. Therefore, I now use Bravenet Web Services for form processing. This seems to have fixed the problem. Please use the Interaction section to use the forms and make your much-valued contributions.
If you find any bugs in the forms, please let me know.
The name & link of Bravenet Web Services added to Mentions page.
If you find any bugs in the Comic section of this site, please let me know.
27 OCTOBER 2002
New section for Indian Links added. Among other things, it has info about an Indian serial based on the Phantom that many non-Indian Phans may not know about. Check it out!
Daily Comic Strip section has been modified. The section now displays the Phantom and Spiderman comic strips from www.chron.com instead of www.king-online.com. This may make the page and images load slowly. Also, now the Sunday comic strips will no longer be available. My apologies for that. Hope you'll bear with the inconvenience and continue visiting the section regularly.
If you find any bugs in the Comic section of this site, please let me know.
Indian Comics section updated to reflect the change in Diamond Comics' contact address. It also provides the publishers' telephone nos., email address and website URL. Please make note of the change.
1 JUNE 2001
Daily Comic Strip section modified. Now you can also view the Sunday comic strips of the Phantom (and Spiderman) provided by the King Online site.
Daily Comic Strip section of this site reactivated, bringing you the daily comic strips of The Phantom and The Amazing Spider-man (unrelated to Lee Falk & this site), courtesy the Houston Chronicle, and Mandrake The Magician, courtesy King Features Syn.
